This tool converts Megabit-per-second to Gigabit-per-second.
- Megabit-per-second is also written as Mbps or Mb/s
- Gigabit-per-second is written as Gbps or Gb/s
How to convert from Mbps to Gbps?
As a first step let’s find the number of bits in each.
- 1 Gigabit = 1,000,000,000 bits
- 1 Megabit = 1,000,000 bits
Therefore 1 Gigabit = 1000 Megabit. Both Gbps and Mbps are units for data transfer and as such the conversion is determined by the following relationship:
- 1 Mbps = 0.001 Gbps
- 1 Gbps = 1000 Mbps
Example Calculation
Fiber internet connections can deliver speeds of 500 Mbps and higher. This is equivalent to 0.5 Gbps.
How to Convert Mbps to Gbps
The easiest way to do this is to divide the number in Mbps by 1000. 2000 Mbps is then 2000/1000 = 2 Gbps. Alternatively the calculator on this page can be used.
